Impeaching Ekweremadu Will Attract Lots Of Anger – Senator
--------------------------------------
Shehu Sani, the senator representing Kaduna central senatorial
district, on Thursday, July 30, responded to calls to impeach the deputy
Senate President Ike Ekweremadu.
According to Senator Sani, a move to impeach the deputy Senate president
will attract the ire of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Senate
caucus.
Speaking on Channels Television morning show, Sunrise daily, Sani said: “First of all, I must make this clear that on June 9, 2015, I wasn’t among the senators because there was
conflicting signal of a meeting with President Buhari and then Ekweremadu emerged as deputy president.
“However, the APC will wish to have a deputy Senate president but then the situation we are in now is that which means, evicting Ekweremadu out of his seat will simply attract a lot of anger from the PDP senate caucus who are very confident he’s the best for the position.
“So for now, I think the Senate should be allowed to be as it is.”
He, however, said that Ekweremadu being a member of the PDP prevents the party from being an effective opposition.
Speaking on the benefits of Ekweremadu’s emergence as deputy Senate president, Sani said: “Now, It is not possible for the PDP to be an opposition to any bill forwarded to the Senate because they are part of it now with their own position as deputy Senate president.
“We just have to make the best of it.”
