It was an awesome mind-blowing experience on Tuesday the 24th, for members of Values Project in Enugu state as they paid a visit to San Carlos farm in Awgu Local Government Area of Enugu on the invitation of Enugu state Government through the ministry of Agriculture. This farm visit was in line with the initiative of the Values Project termed "ONE YOUTH, ONE SKILL". The Coordinator and the Director of the Project, Mr Chukwuma Ephraim Okenwa who led the team for the visit while charging the youths to take up the challenges of being productive members of the economy without waiting on the government to employ or engage them said,
"The level of fancy structures such as Event Centers, Hotels, Shopping Malls springing up in Enugu and beyond should be worrisome to the youths, that these places are where money are being spent, without having corresponding factories where the money are being made".
The youths were excited to be exposed to such an opportunity and insight. Amazingly, the youths expressed their surprise about the existence of such farm in the state and demonstrated their zeal to tap into such opportunities and champion the cause of building a strong economically stable country. The farm which occupied an approximate total of three thousand hectares of land produces pineapple for both local and international markets.
The head of operation, Mr Jideofor who led the team round the farm, explained the private and government partnership, the working conditions, their produce and their challenges, with the initiator of the project, Mr CEO.
The youths having fun while learning and sealing partnership deal in the farm. The market women who came to purchase the produce expressed their satisfaction with the farm and doing business with them. The also called on the government to engage more youths and subsidize agricultural equipment and produce.
It was a worthwhile experience for the youths. The Director of Values Project, Mr Chukwuma Ephraim Okenwa, thanked the management and Enugu state government for such a venture and appreciated them for hosting the youths on such an initiative. He reaffirmed the youths willingness to partner with the government to develop the vast economic potentials in the country.
