Former minister of interior, Abba Moro, is being interrogated by the Economic and Financial Crimes
Commission (EFCC) over the scam which led to a tragedy when the Nigeria Immigration Service conducted its recruitment in 2014.
Moro was
quizzed on Monday in the Abuja office of the EFCC. 700,772 applicants
paid N1,000 each to write the test. There were just 4,000 positions
open.
So where did the N700m go, considering that the basic safety and organisational arrangements were not made, resulting in the death of sixteen people? That’s a question no one has been able to satisfactorily answer.
After the exercise, Moro sensationally blamed the applicants for their disorderliness. He however made an about-turn some weeks later following the public outcry. Former President Goodluck Jonathan however refused to sack Moro in a move which many believe was to appease the then senate president David Mark, the political godfather of the Benue minister.
The other major actor in the recruitment scandal was David Parradang, the former comptroller-general of the NIS. Parradang was removed by President Muhammadu Buhari in August and was interrogated by the EFCC in September although no charges have been brought yet.
