Mechanic village will create employment for youths in the sate- Kano State Government

KANO State government intends to take the unprecedented step of establishing a mechanics village in
the state capital as part of an industrial plan to generate employment and provide widespread automobile repair services.
Already, the state government has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Peugeot Automobile of Nigeria to train hundreds of mechanics under the scheme. These youths will be trained on mechatronics, panel beating, welding and essentials of mechanical/electrical engineering, among other things.
According to Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, the move is part of his government's commitment to build capacities of the youth for self reliance and as well galvanize them to drive socio – economic development. He therefore, charged the youths benefiting from the automobile course to remain dedicated, pointing out that on completion of the training, they will be issued with City and Guilds certificates and be given driving licenses by the government.
Governor Ganduje said: “Because of our high population, we have a large number of vehicles, yet a small number of mechanics and besides, in this day and age, vehicles repairs are above road side mechanics because of the sophistication of vehicles. We must, therefore, train our youth to fill in the gap in this direction”.
He added that mechanics in Kano must transit from the current trial and error approach to vehicle repairs to professionalism in a fast-changing society, which is characterized by developments in information technology and engineering. Elizabeth Mordi, the director-general of the Peugeot Automobile Learning Center in Kaduna, promised that besides the training on automobile repairs, maintenance and allied areas, the trainees would also undergo free information technology and defensive driving courses
