President Muhammadu Buhari has been called upon to intervene
urgently so as to halt the series of
killings in Plateau state as a
result of attacks by gunmen.
Making the call yesterday in Jos, National Body of Berom Youth
Moulder’s (BYM) expressed worry over the incessant clashes between
Fulani herdsmen and the Beroms which has led to the loss of many lives
and destruction of property especially in Riyom, Barkin-Ladi and
recently in Mangu Local Government Areas of State.
In a press
statement jointly signed by BYM president, Chuwang Choji, and its
publicity secretary, Jatau D. Gyang, the group pledged loyalty to the
Buhari’s administration and pleaded with the President to break his
long silence on the perpetual killings of innocent people in the state
by taking stringent measures to curb the menace.
They also urged
Plateau people to be aware of the deliberate steps taking by Fulani
terrorist to pitch ethnic groups in the state against each other through
persistent attack.
BYM condemned recent attack in Kudunung
village in Mangu Local Government Area and refuted claims in some
quarters that the attack was carried by Beroms, adding that “it is
repulsive that the media reported the contrary, portraying the Beroms
to be on the offensive.
“The Government cannot pretend not to be
aware of the unrestrained attacks of these Fulani Herdsmen which has
jeopardized the peaceful co-existence of the entire country, and so we
call on the President of Nigeria, His Execellency, Muhammadu Buhari to
break his long silence on these killings by taking stringent measures to
curb the menace of insecurity in Plateau.
“It is expedient to
mention that Four villages in Foron and Fan Districts of Barkin Ladi
Local Government Areas of Plateau State were simultaneously attacked by
Fulani herdsmen on Sunday 13th of September 2015, at about 21;30hours
where over Fifteen natives (Berom) were gruesomely killed, Thirty
houses including a church raised down by these bloodthirsty human
beings.
“After accomplishing their mission in Fan and Foron axis,
they proceeded to Kadunung in Gindiri where the Berom and Pyem are
predominantly natives to continued their heinous acts, they succeeded in
killing about Eighteen People, burning over 150 houses which rendered
over 5,000 people homeless”
